Chain link may appear straightforward, but long-term performance depends on many details: post depth, footing size, pipe strength, mesh gauge, gate support, ground conditions, slope, wind exposure, privacy slats and expected daily use all affect how an installation should be built. Motorized gates require additional planning — gate weight, travel distance, clearances, post strength, hardware, operator location and daily usage are all considered before installation so the gate is properly suited to the selected operator system.

Fraser Valley Chain Link was founded by Reed Nelson, a Red Seal steel fabricator with 20 years of experience working with steel in the construction industry.

Born and raised in Whonnock, British Columbia, Reed has been interested in building and working with his hands since childhood. After high school, he earned his Red Seal certification as a steel fabricator and built his career in an industry where measurements, strength, fit and visual alignment matter. That background continues to shape the standards at Fraser Valley Chain Link.
Reed looks beyond whether a fence is simply standing and secure. He considers whether the fence line is straight, the posts are plumb, the rails are level, the gates feel solid and the completed installation looks balanced from every angle.
He remains directly involved in estimating, project planning, site-specific decisions, problem-solving and quality control on every project.

Our Story
How Fraser Valley Chain Link Began
Custom Steel Fabrication
Fraser Valley Chain Link began taking shape in 2021, when Reed started completing custom steel fabrication and welding projects of his own. During that first summer, several customers asked whether he could also build chain-link fencing.
A Natural Fit for a Fabricator
As Reed learned the product and installation process, he recognized how naturally chain link fit his steel fabrication background — accurate layout, strong connections, practical problem-solving and careful gate construction. He was also drawn to the product itself: durable, adaptable, low-maintenance and able to protect a property without blocking sightlines.
One Specialty, Done Properly
Rather than becoming a general fencing contractor, Reed chose to build a company around one specialty. FVCL continues to invest in its team, equipment, systems and installation methods to deliver better residential, commercial, agricultural and industrial chain-link projects.

Properties throughout the Sea-to-Sky Corridor, Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley can have very different soil, access and exposure conditions. We do not treat every property as though the conditions are identical — each project is reviewed based on the site, expected use and long-term demands placed on the fence or gate system.

Our team regularly encounters hard-packed ground, soft or wet soil, rock, tree roots, uneven grades, wooded areas, narrow access and open sites exposed to heavy wind. These conditions affect post depth, footing size, pipe strength, bracing, gate support and the installation method required.

Use Drives the Build
A backyard enclosure has different requirements than a high-use commercial gate. A fence fitted with privacy slats experiences more wind load than open mesh. A gate used by vehicles all day requires more support than one opened occasionally by hand.

Motorized gates introduce additional considerations: gate travel, operator compatibility, required clearances, access-control needs and expected daily cycles. These details are settled during planning so the gate, posts and hardware suit the application.

Whenever practical, Fraser Valley Chain Link works with established British Columbia suppliers — including suppliers that provide locally woven chain-link mesh. Working with regional suppliers supports the local construction community and gives us access to compatible mesh, posts, rails, fittings, gate components and operator-ready hardware.
FVCL also values community involvement and long-term local relationships. We have supported local sports organizations and continue to build strong working relationships with contractors, developers, landscapers, property managers, suppliers and other local businesses.
Workmanship, Insurance & Accountability
Fraser Valley Chain Link stands behind its installations with a one-year written workmanship guarantee, subject to the terms provided with the project documentation. When an eligible workmanship concern is reported during the warranty period, our team will inspect the installation and determine the appropriate correction.
Seasonal ground movement and regular use can occasionally affect fence or gate alignment. FVCL maintains commercial insurance appropriate to the work performed — certificates of insurance and supporting documentation can be provided for commercial, strata or contractor-managed projects.
